Unit 2- Nature of Matter

Students will learn about atoms, molecules, and compounds, chemical reactions and physical changes, the behavior of gases and states of matter, as well as heat transfer and thermal energy flow.  Students will use this knowledge to design, create, test, and explain a device that controls temperature.

Unit 3- Electricity and Magnetism

This unit will be remodeled to reflect changes to the curriculum resulting from the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards.

Unit 4- River Studies

In this unit students will explore how the interactions of matter shape the environment around CBMS with a focused look at the relationships between the chemistry, hydrology, geology and ecology of Crossett Brook.

2014-2015 Physical Science

Unit 1 Forces and Motion-

Students use introductory laws of motion to explain and predict the behavior of objects.  Key concepts include the relationships between mass, velocity, acceleration, momentum, forces, and energy.  For the culminating project, students will design and build a water rocket, test it, analyze the results, and modify their designs as they learn, then explain, the factors that influence its motion.
